What Were You Thinking??!!

From last year's Draft Prospect Profile...

Name: Chris Davis
Position: Fullback
College: Syracuse
Height: 5-11
Weight: 235
Hometown: Tampa, Fla.

ANALYSIS
Positives: Muscular athlete with above-average quickness and balance...Shows good straight-line acceleration and burst through the holes...Hits the holes hard and shows good vision to elude tacklers up field...Gives solid effort as a blocker, exploding through the holes when leading for the tailbacks...Also effective making the cut blocks working in space and can be dominating sealing defenders off at the point of attack.

Negatives: Has inconsistent work habits...Not a "team" player earlier in his career, but became more compliant later on...Lacks the top-end speed to be consistent as a runner on the perimeter...Rarely used in passing situations and does not show the natural hands needed to pluck and snatch away from the body's frame...Lacks awareness picking up the blitz, looking unsure of who he should block...Gets taken off his feet too much as a lead blocker, causing the rushing lanes to clog...More of a high contact and push-type blocker who, despite his size, does not appear natural playing the fullback role...Needs reps and special attention in order to digest plays.

Inconsistent work habits?

Not a "team" player?

Lacks awareness picking up the blitz?

What the hell was I thinking picking this guy for my Adopt-a-Seahawk blog?

The real reason why I chose Chris Davis is mainly due to him being a Syracuse guy, and me having grown up about 60 miles East of Syracuse in a town called Utica. Also, as a life long Seahawks fan, I always root for the underdog, and after reading about him getting hurt in his first pro game and having to sit out the entire season, I felt he could use someone in his corner this year. Then, from his Seahawks Player Profile page, I found out he's a fellow Scorpio, with his birthday 4 days after mine, and I figured this is "my guy!"

Besides, also noted on his Bio is this" Earned a roster spot on the club after a standout preseason. so it appears that he's working on the areas where he needs to improve, and he impressed Holmgren enough last year to earn a roster spot. I'm sure the competition will be even greater this year, because with Mack being as old as he is, and Davis being our only other FB on the roster, and all our draft choices, we're bound to pick up another FB prospect in the later rounds.

So I'm am now tending this Chris Davis Adopt-a-Seahawk! blog due to the fact that I'm an underdog loving, Upstate NY dwelling, SU-rooting, Seahawks-chatting-addicted blogger with nothing better to do!
